On paper, the Mission High baseball team looks like world beaters.

The World of Sports

On that same paper, so do McHi and PSJA. There are probably some other teams that look pretty darn good on paper.

But the game is played on the diamond.

And in the baseball-rich District 30-6A, paper ain’t gonna cut it – it’s aluminum (batting), leather (defense) and especially strong arms (pitching) that will determine champions and playoff contenders.

Last year, it was a powerful and deep McHi team that carried the district’s banner, first defeating PSJA two games to one in the area round but then falling to Laredo Alexander, 2-1 in the deciding game of the the third round of the state playoffs. Alexander has been to the fourth round all but once in the past five seasons and that came in 2017 when the Bulldogs knocked them off.
