The Strange Case of Ilhan Omar

Truth Matters

David Steinberg is a reporter for PJ Media. He has spent the last several months investigating newly-elected U. S. Representative Ilhan Omar. The Minneapolis Star Tribune has also been looking at her, and while it has not yet corroborated all of Steinberg's findings, it has confirmed at least part of what he has reported. For her part, Ilhan Omar has refused to answer questions and has simply labeled both Steinberg and the Star Telegram as racists out to destroy women of color.

What Steinberg reports is that Omar isn't Omar at all. When she (as a girl of 12) was in the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya (having escaped with her family from Somalia), her father reportedly made a deal with the Omar family (which was being offered asylum in the United States) to fraudulently claim that half his family including Ilhan were Omars. The other half (operating under their own names) were eventually granted asylum in the UK. Her father's name was actually Nur Said (a fact which her sister confirmed on a marriage license). Ilhan's name was Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.
