The Capital Gazette Attack

The Annapolis Police are rightly praised for their quick response and for capturing the shooter. One wonders, however, whether a one minute response time proves that police are not the solution for neutralizing such attacks. In one minute five people, including the editor, had already been killed. By contrast it only takes five seconds to take a pistol from a desk drawer and engage the shooter. Why weren’t there any guns available to those under attack?

The answer may once again be that government got in the way of people being able to protect themselves. A couple of years ago Maryland enacted what may be the most draconian gun laws in the nation. I know about it because when one of my brothers (who lives on the outskirts of Annapolis) heard what was about to be enacted he finally bought a pistol for home protection.
