Truth Matters
When President Trump announced the imposition of tariffs on Mexico for allowing the pass through of an army of immigrants from Central America, both Republican and Democrat lawmakers were horrified. We were told that the move would increase the price of automobiles in the United States and make the flow of illegals increase because it would throw Mexicans out of work. Schumer predicted the whole thing was a bluff by an unstable president and that the Donald would back off his threat once his advisers talked sense into him. Republicans from farm states lamented the supposed fact that Mexico was likely to respond with tariffs against our corn exports to Mexico and hurt American farmers who were already suffering loss because of our trade confrontation with China. Some legislators stated with conviction that trade and immigration (border security) were separate issues and should be maintained as separate issues.
