4th of July Grinchocrats
Truth Matters
Everyone loves a party – almost. When the President announced there would be a celebration of our nation's history and heroes several months ago, Democrats were quick to criticize. As the date of said celebration approached, leading Democrat presidential candidates took turns lambasting the planned event. Our nation, we were told, didn't need a parade of tanks heading for the Mall. We didn't need to “militarize” the event. Furthermore, money could be better spent on social projects rather than on a demonstration of military strength. When the President came up with donors to help defray the expenses, then the Democrats were highly critical that he'd created stands for them to sit in. Only one tank was visible in the televised event. That tank was surrounded by tourists taking pictures of it. Nor was the President's speech remotely political. He didn't mention either party or attack Democrats. He spoke of individuals (both Republican and Democrat) without identifying them by party but praising them as heroes. He recounted the stories of scientists, astronauts, civil rights leaders, and others. It was one of the most upbeat speeches I've ever heard him or any other President (including Reagan) give.
