WINGATE CARY EVANS
ALAMO - , 52, was a resident of Alamo, Texas at the time of his passing on August 10, 2018. He was born June 25, 1966 in Wilmington, North Carolina to Dennis Ray Evans and Linda Sue Scarborough.
He passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Yvonne Lopez-Evans and two daughters, Dallas Marie Evans and Cassandra Adalyce Guerrero by his bedside.
Wingate graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville, Virginia. Soon after graduation he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he served his country for 15 years. He received military education and achieved numerous decorations, medals and awards for his outstanding dedication, performance and leadership. During this course, he also attended Appalachian State University where he wanted to pursue an education in Engineering.
After retiring from the United States Coast Guard in 1997, he became a professional Over the Road Truck Driver for the next 18 years and drove for Spirit Truck Lines of San Juan, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dennis Ray Evans; his paternal grandparents, Norman Pate Evans and Bertha Mae Grimes Evans; and his maternal grandparents, William Carey Scarborough and Ellen Dempster Scarborough.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Yvonne Lopez-Evans of Alamo; a son, Wyatt Pate Evans of Staunton, Virginia; two daughters, Dallas Marie Evans of Alamo, Cassandra Adalyce Guerrero of McAllen; a grandson, Ricardo Sustaita IV; his mother, Linda Gilliland of Casper, WY; three brothers, Victor Norman (Jean) Evans of Lynchburg, Virginia, Jason Montgomery Evans of Seattle, Washington, Danyon Ralph (Rachel) Evans of Collierville, Tennessee; two sisters, Shanden Marie Evans of Charlotte, North Carolina and Suzanna Miriam Evans of Athens, Georgia; and his stepfather, Elwood Vail Gilliland of Casper, Wyoming.
Visitation were held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Sunday, August 12, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 2 p.m. Monday, August 13, 2018, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Pallbearers were Edward Lopez, Mark Lopez, Roland Renteria, Frankie Guevara, Jayden Arrington, Micah Lopez. Honorary pallbearer was his grandson, Ricardo Sustaita IV. Military honors were conducted by VFW Post 7473 of Elsa. Cremation took place at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg.
Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
