Salvador “Sonny” Loya, 58, died Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Amara Hospice Inpatient Facility in Edinburg. Born in Brownsville, he resided in Pharr and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He is preceded in death by his father, Jose Maria Loya. Sonny is survived by his wife, Eva G. Loya; a son, Issac G. Loya; two daughters, Aisha G. Loya, Maegan G. Loya, all of Pharr; his mother, Josefina G. Loya, of Brownsville; four siblings, Norma Sylvia (Alex) Garcia, of Brownsville, Servando (Pat) Loya, of Houston, Sergio (Sherryl) Loya, of Ashburn, Virginia and Sigi (Lauren) Loya, of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today, December 3, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday December 4, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 93 of Mission. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Loya family. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
