MINERVA “HILMA” MARISCAL

ALAMO -- Mom, at the age of 71, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at home surrounded by family and friends. She was a beautiful lady in every sense of the word and a wonderful human being. It was her nature so she couldn’t help touching countless lives with her unconditional love. She had an amazing sense of humor, an infectious laugh, and always ready with a witty comeback. She loved traveling with her sisters, outings with her children, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren of which she had many. She cherished them all. Perhaps not so sadly her journey here has ended but a new one has begun. She has a new calling in which she will be reuniting with our dad and other family and friends who have passed before her. Before she passed she let us know that she would still be watching over us. We rejoice in knowing that she is going to a wonderful place full of music, laughter and love where she can garden and read to her heart’s content. Until we see you again mom we will celebrate the life you have blessed us with and will continue to live as you taught us. We will miss you. She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan Jose Mariscal; her parents, Elido and Angelina Garza; and a brother, Charlie Garza. Mrs. Mariscal is survived by her eight children, Juan Jose Mariscal, Roberto Omar (Maria) Mariscal, Irene (Elias) Medina, Diana (Ramiro) Gonzalez, , Deborah (Rogelio) Ornelas, Esteban (Maria) Mariscal, Carlos Andres (Rosa Isela) Mariscal, Gabriel (Janeth) Mariscal; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray (Mary) Garza of Pharr; and four sisters, Gracie (Richard) Garza of Kingsburg, CA, Cory (Ed) Ramirez, Tana (Trino) Lopez, both of San Juan and Josie (Arturo) Salinas of Alamo. Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Sunday, Feb. 28, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment followed at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of San Juan.
