SAN JUAN/KANSAS CITY, MO – Maria Elena “Nena” Farias, 67, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at her residence in Kansas City, Missouri. Although throughout her life she lived in many places, she always called San Juan her home. Nena was a loving, hard-working, caring mother, and wife who always supported her family. She watched over, guided, and encouraged with loving words all of her children. She enjoyed taking walks, being in the outdoors and eating sweet bread, always saying “un pedacito mas.” Nena will truly be missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bartolo and Maria Jovita Reyes; three siblings, Esteban Reyes, Francisco Reyes, Maria Tobias; and a grandson, Seth A. Valentine. Nena is survived by her husband of 40 years, Salvador Farias of Kansas City, Missouri; five children, Alejandro Farias, Esmeralda Farias, both of Kansas City, Missouri, Ruby (Michael) Lucio of Alamo, Lizeth (Alfonso) Farias of Indiana, Luis Farias of Houston; eight grandchildren; three siblings, Bertha (Adelaido) Chavez of Matehuala, S.L.P., Mexico, Petra Reyes of Joliet, Illinois, and Olegario (Dora) Reyes of Walla Walla, Washington. Visitation was held July 26 at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place Monday, July 27 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment followed at San Juan Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
