SAN JUAN – Jesus “Jesse” Martinez, 49, died Friday, September 16, 2016, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. Born in Mexico, he had lived in San Juan most of his life and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Jesse loved barbequing while watching his favorite football team, the Washington Redskins. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Joeylynn Martinez; his mother, Manuela Martinez; his grandmother, Petra Fabela; his grandfather, Margarito Martinez; and a nephew, Joey Salas. Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Hilda Martinez of San Juan; a son, Jesus (Amanda Gutierrez) Martinez, III of McAllen; a daughter, Kassandra Marie Martinez of San Juan; his father, Jesus Martinez of Palmview; a brother, Martin Martinez of Weslaco; three sisters, Maria Salas, Gracie Garcia, both of Pharr and Patricia Martinez of San Antonio; his mother-in-law, Teresa Ramos Hernandez; three sisters-in-law, Martina Cortez, Leonor Sandoval, Leticia Luna; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, September 19, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment followed at Guadalupe Cemetery in Pharr. Military honors was conducted by VFW Post 7473 of Elsa. Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
