BENITO “KING PALACE” LOPEZ, JR.

PHARR - Benito “King Palace” Lopez, Jr., 77, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Solera Hospital in McAllen.

Born in Pharr, he lived there all of his life. Mr. Lopez was a leader for the Migrant Farm Workers. In 1971, he went to China for a Farm Workers Culture Exchange program representing the United States of America and was sponsored by La Guardia Airport in New York.

Benito is survived by his wife, Genobeva “Ginnie” Garza Lopez of Pharr; four sons, Benito (Sonia) Lopez, III, Joe Daniel Lopez, Joe Gabriel Lopez, all of Pharr, Carlos Hernandez of San Antonio; six grandchildren; three brothers, Ruben Lopez, Carlos Lopez, Adan Lopez, all of Pharr; four sisters, Olivia (Juan) Sanchez of Pharr, Oralia Lopez of California, Lydia Sanchez of Indiana, Herminia Contreras of La Villa, TX.

Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Thursday, December 13, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 2 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at El Capote Cemetery in Hidalgo.

Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
