Pharr hosts ribbon-cutting for completion of Owassa Road Project
Pharr, Texas – Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez and Pharr City leaders celebrated the completion of the Owassa Road Project on Thursday, August 2, 2018, alongside officials from the City of Edinburg and the Texas Department of Transportation. The project, which broke ground in April 2017, was completed months ahead of schedule, and under budget.
“We are proud to have contributed considerably to the overall improvement of traffic flow for this major regional thoroughfare, which borders between three cities, and thousands of residents who rely on this road and travel it on a daily basis,” said Mayor Hernandez. “We are confident that drivers will appreciate the increased ease and accessibility that this road expansion will provide,” he continued.
Expanding Owassa Road from two lanes to four lanes was a much-needed and long overdue project, and Mayor Hernandez and the City Commision made this road expansion one of their priorities, successfully securing funding from the Texas Department of Transportation through the Hidalgo County Metropolitan Planning Organization. The total project construction cost amounted to approximately $5.2 million and was completed ahead of schedule at around 20 months.
