PSJA High’s Andrade places first in 400m at Meet of Champions

On a cool Saturday evening in late March before hundreds of fans at Bobby Lackey Stadium in Weslaco, Jose Andrade quietly set his blocks in lane four. He did one run-through to make sure his blocks were good and that they didn’t move.
“Everything felt right,” explained Andrade.
Then, he stood behind them, waiting for the man in the red polo to yell, “RUNNERS ON YOUR MARKS!” And once he did, Andrade carefully got into his blocks, tucked his chin to his chest, and waited for the gun to go off. It wasn’t the first time he had done this.
