PHARR - Maria Antonia Guzman, on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, our beautiful, spunky, feisty, loving and classy madrecita has left us peacefully - surrounded by her loving family in Ogden, Utah. Born on September 2, 1930 she was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Maria Gutierrez and Francisca H. Gutierrez, her husband of 65 years, Juan Guzman, Jr., her son, Jaime Guzman, two brothers and a sister. She is survived by sons and daughters: Marcy Guzman, Toni Guzman, Karen (Juan) Hernandez, Oscar (Maxine) Guzman and Kris (Ralph) Carlin all from Ogden, Utah; Maria (Mike) Rivers and Rhonda (Leo) Arteaga of Farr West, Utah, Johnny (Zulema) Guzman of McAllen, Amanda (Juan) Garza of Layton, Utah, Selma (Reyes Jr.) Saenz of Pharr and David (Maribel) Guzman of Mission. She is also survived by her brothers, Jose Maria Gutierrez, Jr. and Jose Jesus Gutierrez and by a sister, Eugenia (Ginnie) Gutierrez. Pallbearers were Hunter Thurgood, Noah Guzman, Mykal Arteaga, Edwin Mora, Jesus Mora Saenz, Jr. and Matthew Guzman. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Guzman, Oscar Guzman, David Guzman, Mike Rivers, Juan Hernandez, Juan Garza, Reyes Saenz Jr., Leo Arteaga and Ralph Carlin. The Guzman family would like to give special thanks to Kathy Halverson with Kindred at Home Hospice and Carol Kelson from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ogden and all her caregivers that gave their time unselfishly, and to all our extended family and friends that helped in any way. Visitation was held on Monday,June 16, from 1 to 9 p.m. at Skinner- Silva Funeral Chapel in Pharr, with a Holy Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 17, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Pharr. Entombment followed at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pharr. She was so brave and set a wonderful example of how to meet our creator. This woman that gave life to 12 children - through thick and thin and with her wisdom of life - showed us how to be strong and united. For this mom we are so thankful. We will miss you so much and our time we had together. Until we meet again. Funeral services were entrusted to the care of Skinner-Silva Funeral Home of Pharr.
