Only one contractor bids on $150m job

Hidalgo County’s reputation is worse that I thought. Only one company bid on the construction manager at risk job for the county’s planned $150 million courthouse BCO (Before Change Orders). It would appear that our reputation precedes us as a place contractors don’t really want to do business.
Morganti, with headquarters in Connecticut, and offices in San Antonio and Houston, was the sole bidder for the construction manager at risk job bid out by the county. It was awarded the work by the county commissioners court last week. I don’t know if I should congratulate the company or send it a sympathy card.
So why did only one large company bid on the job, one might ask. It’s not a job for small contractors, to be sure, because the bond requirement of $150 million is no small nut to crack. There are, however, big construction companies across Texas that could have put in a bid, not to mention
