Keep on Truckin’

The Advance News Journal finally got a return on the public information request it sent Hidalgo County this summer concerning its purchasing department’s recommendation last fall that the Commissioners Court take $1.44 million in taxpayer dollars and purchase 12 used trucks (tractors) and 12 used vacuum trailers.
If and when areas of the county became flooded, the truck-vacuum rigs would be used to siphon standing water in flood-prone areas, theoretically quicker and cheaper than during past storm passages when such work had been contracted out to private companies.
