There's a new product out called the "smart glass" which is solar (electric) powered and might come in handy in the desert. Leave it alone for awhile and it extracts moisture from the air and fills itself up with water. A larger version (about the size of a household generator) provides sufficient water for an entire family. What's particularly interesting about these contraptions is that they were developed with the use of crowd funding.
