ALAMO – Petra G. Garza, 84, died Thursday, April 7 at her residence in Alamo. Born in Bishop, Petra had lived in Alamo since 1996 and was formerly of Pharr. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. She is preceded in death by her son, David Villarreal; a brother, Valentin Gaitan; two sisters, Lela Gonzalez and Maria Elizalde. Mrs. Garza is survived by her husband, Manuel F. Garza of Alamo; eight children, Manuel (Susana) Garza Jr. of Pharr, Ana Garza (Robert) Anguiano of Austin, Rolando Garza of Dallas, Jaime Garza of San Antonio, Mario (Nattie) Garza of Austin, Joe (Karen) Garza of Houston, Juan (Letty) Garza of Alamo, Belinda (Martin) Corona of Weslaco; 24 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to her caregiver, Alma Torres and the staff of Renaissance Hospice for the care given to Petra. Visitation were held from 3 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, April 10, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment followrd at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Funeral service were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
