PHARR — Juana F. “Alicia” Salinas, our dearly beloved mother was called to Heaven on March 27, 2016. She was born May 16, 1930 in Ahualulco de Mercado, Jalisco to Francisco Flores and Margarita R. Flores. She was the oldest of four children followed by her brothers, Ruben, Aniceto and Francisco Flores. Alicia lived in Pharr most of her life after moving here from Mexico.
Alicia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She was passionate about cooking and baking and dedicated herself to the success of Del Sur Restaurant in Pharr, TX. Alicia was an amazing chef who pleased the appetites of all who went to the restaurant. Throughout her life, Alicia was devoted to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church where she served in many roles. She was most proud to be a member of The Legion of Mary for 35 years of which she served as president for 20 years. At the center of her life was a love for gardening, sewing, crocheting and learning new ideas from many different magazines, which always made her happy. Alicia was a very generous person who was always concerned about the well being of others. In her many trips into Mexico, Alicia packed many clothes, shoes and other necessities that she would give away to poor families in need.
Alicia is preceded in death by her spouse, Eliseo “Cheo” Salinas; her son, Leonzo Salinas; her brother, Francisco Flores; and her parents, Margarita R. Flores and Francisco Flores. She is survived by ten children, Eliseo “Tito” (Norma) Jr. Salinas, Richard (Terri Loya) Salinas, Benjamin A. Salinas, Sandra Salinas Ortiz, Fred (Melissa G.) Salinas, Margie Salinas, Frank (Alex Garza) Salinas, Catherine (Johnnie) Bain, John B. Salinas and Georgina Salinas Fowler; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Alicia will forever be in our hearts and will be dearly missed.

Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Tuesday, March 29, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, at St. Margret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Funeral service are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of San Juan.
