PHARR — Margarita Flores Muniz, 87, was called to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2016. She passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her sons, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. With sadness in our hearts we accept our Heavenly Father’s decision to take this strong, independent, kind and gentle woman and join Him as an angel of His own. Mrs. Flores was born June 25, 1928 in Mercedes, Texas to Santos Muniz and Tomasa Vega. She devoted her life to her family, sacrificing her needs and placing the needs of everyone else ahead of her own. She was a humble person whose greatest joy was caring for her children and grandchildren. Being of strong religious faith she lived life as a devoted Catholic woman and embodied God’s teachings to set a good, positive example for her family. Our mother will forever live on in our hearts and will be honored daily following her example of life: treating others with love, respect and compassion. She can now rest eternally in the arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and in the company of her husband, Simon Flores Sr.; daughters, Ma. Olga Flores and Ernestina Flores; and sons, Gumaro Flores and Simon Flores Jr. She is also preceded in death by a daughter in law, Ma. Olivia Flores.
Mrs. Flores’ last words were “MI RIQUEZA FUERON MIS HIJOS. YO YA CUMPLI MI MISION!” Margarita is survived by her children: Arturo (LuLu) Flores, Luis (Adela) Fores, Olga (Raul) Valdez, Nora (Eulalio) Garcia, Martha (David) Tamez, Jorge (Juany) Flores, Veronica (Juan) Rodriguez; two daughters in law, Andrea Flores, Francis Flores; 32 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Luis Muniz. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of San Juan.
