Edinburg CISD tops all South Texas districts in TEA academic accountability ratings for third consecutive year

EDINBURG – The Texas Education Agency (TEA) recently announced that all schools from the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District achieved a Met Standard rating and 11 of those campuses also earned all possible distinction designations in the 2018 state accountability ratings.

“It is a fantastic achievement for Edinburg CISD to have more campuses that earned all available distinctions than any other school district in South Texas for the third consecutive year,” said ECISD Superintendent Dr. René Gutiérrez. “Congratulations to all of the students, teachers, staff, parents and the community for their hard work and dedication, which has helped to increase our academic standards year after year.”

Additionally, Edinburg CISD achieved the postsecondary readiness distinction for the second consecutive year.

ECISD was one of only 61 school districts and district charters across the state that received a distinction designation for postsecondary readiness as part of the 2018 state accountability rating. The postsecondary readiness distinction is the only distinction designation at the district level under the state accountability system.

According to TEA, more than 400 campuses that achieved a Met Standard rating in the 2018 state accountability ratings also earned all distinction designations applicable to their individual school.

Edinburg CISD campuses (listed alphabetically) that earned all possible distinctions applicable to that school in 2018 are as follows:

Vela High School

Up to seven distinction designations can be earned for: Academic Achievement in English Language Arts/Reading; Academic Achievement in Mathematics; Academic Achievement in Science; Academic Achievement in Social Studies; Top 25 Percent: Comparative Academic Growth; Top 25 Percent: Comparative Closing the Gaps; and Postsecondary Readiness.

“Earning one or several campus-level distinctions is notable and should be applauded by a community as an outstanding achievement,” Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said. “For a school to earn every potential distinction applicable to their campus is difficult, but a reflection of some truly amazing work by our educators.”

Edinburg CISD received a total of 170 distinction designations as part of the 2018 state accountability rating.
