ALAMO – Juan Ocanas, 52, died Saturday, February 6, 2016, at LifeCare Hospital in McAllen. Born in San Juan, he had lived in Alamo all of his life. He was a caring, loving person with a heart full of compassion and gentleness. Juan battled cystic fibrosis and miraculously lived longer than the expected life span of someone with this disease; he was a true “fighter.” He fulfilled his dream and passion of truck driving through his business, Ocanas Transport. Juan will truly be missed by his loved ones, especially his “Sunshine.” He is preceded in death by his parents, Abel and Olivia Ocanas; and five siblings.
Mr. Ocanas is survived by his wife, Sylvia Ocanas, of Alamo; two sons, Jose Domingo (Beatriz) Ocanas, of Pharr, Juan Angel Ocanas, of Alamo; five grandchildren; three brothers, Abel Ocanas Jr., of Pharr, Raul Ocanas, of Edinburg, Jose Ocanas, of Alamo; and four sisters, Estella Ocanas, of Alamo, Irma Garcia, of Colorado, Rebecca Ocanas, of Pharr and Hilda Alvarado, of Edinburg. Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, Feb. 8, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment followed at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
