Chief: no rogue narcs out there
By G. Romero Wendorf
There is a rumor floating around that the Pharr PD has an anti-narcotics task force operating in un-supervised fashion, similar to the way in which the now notorious and defunct Panama Unit used to operate. The only difference is: no one within earshot of this newspaper is accusing the Pharr task force of engaging in the sort of illicit activities that brought infamy to Panama: Shaking down drug dealers and then flipping the loads for personal gain, that sort of thing.
That lack of operational oversight, lack of supervision, is what presumably led to the collapse of the infamous anti-narcotics Panama Unit, which was led, based on court testimony in federal court, by Jonathan Treviño, the youngest son of former Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño.
