Local sales tax revenue a mix bag

(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $617.2 million in local sales tax allocations for January, 0.1 percent less than in January 2015. These allocations are based on sales made in November by businesses that report tax monthly.
Hegar also said Jan. 6 that sales tax revenue for the state in December was $2.33 billion, down 1.1 percent compared to December 2014 And in case you're interested in how other Texas cities compared for the same reporting period, January 2016 vs. January 2015, Austin was up 6.21 percent, Brownsville up 2.18 percent, Dallas up 6.76 percent, El Paso up 2.83 percent, Houston down 2.08 percent, Laredo down 6.45 percent, and San Antonio up 2.88 percent.
