Hang on to your hats because this Donna ISD lawsuit has all the makings of some high-sparks courtroom drama. Not to sound flip, because if you’re one of the three defendants named, it’s no laughing matter. But based on the allegations, if it goes to trial, the way local school politics works in this city will be put under a microscope. Filed in McAllen’s U.S. Federal Court last Friday, the lawsuit alleges that three Donna ISD board trustees – Albert Sandoval (board president), Tomasa “Tammy” Ramos and Nick Castillo – violated the civil rights of seven school district employees shortly after the winners were declared in last November’s school board race.
