Signed confession claims it was Patterson who smothered the victim

PHARR – After reading the signed voluntary confession of Angel Mario Garza, the man charged with the Jan. 28, 2015 high-profile murder of 96-year-old WW II vet Marty Knell inside his north-side McAllen home, there is little wonder why his court-appointed attorney, Daniel Reyes, has filed motions to suppress his confession so that it never makes its way to trial. Not only is the confession damning to Garza, but it could also proving damning to the 49-year-old woman charged with Knell’s murder: Monica Melissa Patterson, 49, a PSJA High graduate and related through blood to one of the City of Pharr’s and Hidalgo County’s most wellknown and powerful political machines: the Palacios family.
