They made money this time.
Total revenues for the 2016 McAllen Holiday Parade were $769,900 and expenses were $719,527, for a $50,373 surplus, according to figures supplied during a presentation to McAllen city commissioners at a Monday workshop. Just a year ago, as The Monitor’s Mitchell Ferman wrote, Assistant City Manager Joe Vera was reporting a $750,000 loss.
The Parade recap states that the parade “is the largest illuminated holiday and helium balloon parade in Texas and that the 2016 event “attracted more than one quarter of a million spectators from South Texas and Northern Mexico.”
