One big heap of “disposable” wipes

As a follow-up to the story the Advance published March 5 — Keep wipes out of pipes — here’s a photo sent to us last week by the Pharr Public Utilities Department. It shows a heaping mess of “biodegradable disposable” wipes pulled from the sewer lines near Ferguson and Palm Drive. As pointed out in the March 5 story, the problem is, the wipes bond together and plug the pipes. The subsequent clean-up and broken pumps cost taxpayers money.
