HIDALGO – The woman who filed the initial complaint of alleged voter fraud in Hidalgo tied to the July 2016 runoff election for three city council seats – Heaven Mildred “Bambi” Escobedo Flores – isn’t shy about her involvement in the process. On her Facebook page, she posted (unedited): “Greg Abbott and Texas Atty. Gen. (Ken Paxton), thank you for your attention on voter fraud in the city of Hidalgo, Texas. Your actions have made a tremendous impact to the constituents in the city of Hidalgo; for years we’ve lived under corruption and intimidation. Politiqueras will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Constituents in the City of Hidalgo and Hidalgo County demand clean transparent elections.”
As a result of Escobedo’s initial complaint and the follow-up state investigation, three women were charged last month with voter fraud tied to the City of Hidalgo’s 2016 runoff election: Sylvia Arjona; Marcela Gutierrez; and Sara Ornelas. Since their arrests, all three have maintained their innocence.
