Local money-attorney who snitched on district court judge pleads guilty

It wasn’t long after the arrest of state District Court Judge Rodolfo “Rudy” Delgado Feb. 2 and his indictment by a Houston-based federal grand jury Feb. 28, which charged him with six felony counts related to bribery, that the name of the attorney who brought about Delgado’s fall from grace became known throughout the Hidalgo County Courthouse: Edinburg-based Noe Perez. The news reporters with valid sources knew it was Perez, but no news outlet could report on it because his name had yet to become a matter of public record.

That changed last month, however, when Perez showed up in a Houston federal courtroom May 11 for his initial hearing. Houston is also the city where Delgado’s criminal trial will take place, which is tentatively set for this September. On the same day of Perez’s initial hearing, he also entered into a 16-page plea agreement with the feds, admitting to the charge for which he stands accused: bribing Delgado for favorable court rulings over an approximately eight-year period.
