Former sanitation director fires back at former employer
SAN JUAN – You work for the same city for approximately 26 years, you give it your all, and what do you get in return? A swift kick out the door from one day to the next. At least that’s Carmen Gonzalez’s take on what she describes as her “forced retirement” last month as the city’s sanitation department director. On city paperwork, however, her departure is simply listed as “retired.”
As reported in two previous news stories published in The Advance, a politiquera with stout and plenty of clout some how got the city to demolish one of her old homes on Nebraska near the center of town for free and also had the debris hauled away for free. That demolition resulted in Gonzalez’s immediate departure from the city and the job termination of the city’s planning director, Xavier Cervantes.
