Form should include campaign donations?
By G. Romero Wendorf
Recently I signed a contract with a city for some work done on an as-needed basis. It had to do with The Advance’s sister company, The Wendorf Detective Agency. None of this monthly retainer stuff. If we do work, we’ll bill you. If not, we won’t.
As part of the process, I had to go online to the Texas Ethics Commission and download Form 1295, which is Texas’ Certificate of Interested Parties. Meaning, if I had any relatives working for the city, I had to disclose it, or if I had any business/ financial relations with any of the elected officials, I had to disclose it. Don’t have the form in front of me, but the point is, if a vendor is doing business with a public entity in Texas, it’s not supposed to have any personal or business ties with the officials who govern it unless they’re disclosed. No problemo. In fact, I happen to agree with it.
