Court recusal & Godfrey Garza, Jr. JP Jasso’s hit-and-run case assigned a new judge

EDINBURG – The misdemeanor hit-and-run charge against Hidalgo County JP Precinct 4, Place 2 Homero Jasso, 75, is still in limbo after the judge inside Hidalgo County Court-at-Law No. 8, Omar Maldonado, recused himself June 13 from the case.

In Maldonado’s place, the presiding judge of the Fifth Administrative Judicial Region, Missy Medary, has assigned former Judge Martin Chiuminatto to preside over Jasso’s misdemeanor case.

Chiuminatto’s name was in the news last year when he dismissed a number of charges that Hidalgo County had filed against Godfrey Garza, Jr., the former chief of the county’s drainage district, claiming he and his engineering firm stole millions from county taxpayers during the construction of the border levee wall.
