A Brownsville supervisory CBP officer assists in the rescue of a child that had been pinned in strong current in the Rio Grande near the Gateway International Bridge.

Border Patrol Agents and CBP Officers Rescue Father and Child from the Rio Grande

BROWNSVILLE – CBP officers and agents this weekend rescued two people from the dangerous waters of the Rio Grande.

On Sunday afternoon, Brownsville Border Patrol agents and Customs and Border Protection officers responded to a report of approximately 40 illegal aliens who crossed the Rio Grande underneath the Brownsville Gateway International Bridge. Upon arrival, agents and officers took several illegal aliens into custody and observed aliens pinned in the middle of the river due to the strong currents. Agents requested the assistance from nearby CBP riverine units who responded to the area and rescued a man traveling with his child. CBP personnel provided all persons with medical attention and had the entire group transported to the Brownsville Border Patrol Station.
