“You’re harassing my client…”

If you’re a public figure facing a capital murder trial, and you don’t want to have your photo taken, there’s not a whole lot you can do about it. That’s why the sight of mob guys leaving the courthouse with their jackets covering their heads to avoid having their faces plastered across newspaper pages and the TV screen is a familiar sight. Celebs, too, when the paparazzi start to circle them like sharks, often shield their faces from public view. In the case of Marlon Brando, he went so far as to punch a paparazzi in the face in 1973 on the streets of New York City, breaking his jaw and knocking out five teeth. Not to get too far off track, but that particular paparazzi, Ron Galella, became known as “The Godfather of Paparazzi.” Richard Burton’s security guards punched him as well, costing him another tooth. Elvis Presley’s bodyguards slashed his tires; and actor Sean Penn spat at him and punched him for taking pictures of him and Madonna. Amazingly, Galella, 86 years of age, is still alive and well.
