While the McAllen High girls soccer team eyes a second straight trip to the state tournament, the fact that they won the 2018 Class 6A Region IV Tournament and advanced to state in Georgetown, has implications that go beyond McAllen and all through South Texas.

Now, a breath of new hope has reached girls programs around the Valley. At the same time, it has put an even bigger target on the team that showed it was the best in the Rio Grande Valley last year.

“There are other teams that can do it too,” said McAllen High coach Patrick Arney. “Memorial is getting close and there are others who are getting closer and closer. It’s only a matter of time.”
