Mustangs dominate Lobos 34-14 to clinch district title

The McAllen Memorial Mustangs used a dominating overall performance, led by the explosive running of Trevor Speights, to pound the La Joya Palmview Lobos 34-14 Friday night in La Joya and clinch the District 30-6A title. Friday’s battle decided the district title as both the Mustangs and Lobos entered the contest undefeated in district play. The Lobos gained a 7-0 lead with a first- quarter touchdown, but the Mustangs answered with two second-quarter scores to take a 13-7 advantage into halftime. Memorial built its margin to 21-7 by the end of the third quarter and put the game out of reach with two fourth quarter touchdowns.
