Future of the Olympics

The year after the London Olympics I walked through Olympic village and visited the various venues. The outdoor stadium was now being used by one of London’s several major league soccer teams. The bicycle racing arena was being used by area cycling clubs. The athletes’ quarters were in the process of being converted into apartments to help mitigate London’s chronic housing shortage. The country had decided beforehand to build the facilities with future use in mind. Not everything, of course, could be constructed along those lines. Across the town in Greenwich (behind the Maritime Museum) the horse jumping venue was already gone. It was put up as only a temporary structure and the stands were quickly dismantled after the events there.
