A Few Thoughts

Truth Matters

It is heartening that the general in charge of the Venezuelan Air Force has come out in favor of the newly-declared temporary replacement president. It must be remembered, however, that Russia and China combined have supplied the Marxist bus driver president Maduro with 350 million dollars worth of weapons to keep him in power. In addition, China has loaned Maduro 70 billion dollars (with Venezuela’s oil reserves as collateral). As part of that deal he has just given China a 49% stake in the country’s oil monopoly. Russia has also flown 200 of Putin’s best-trained mercenaries into Caracas to defend him. Unless the rest of the country’s military desert Maduro soon, the result is very likely going to be a civil war (with most of the weapons on the communist side).

Maduro, however, has made yet another disastrous decision which is likely to bite him on the rear. He has rejected the offer of U. S. shipments of relief aid to feed his people and restock local hospitals (that currently possess zero supplies of even the simplest kind). When people are sick or starving and your leader turns down aid, that is not likely to go over well with the people. Hundreds of thousands have taken to the streets, and some of those marching in protest are relatives of the generals who have not yet abandoned Maduro. Unless Putin’s mercenaries start shooting generals, it’s likely the military will change sides within a matter of days.
