Raul Gonzales, 95, died Friday, December 27, 2014, at McAllen Medical Center. Born in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mr. Gonzales, an avid horseman, began riding at the age of 5 years old, working as a ranch hand and becoming a ranch foreman for the Guerra Brothers in Linn/San Manuel for over 38 years. He had lived in McAllen since 1967 and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Guadalupe V. Gonzales; his parents, Maximo and Luisa Gonzales; and siblings. Mr. Gonzales is survived by four children, Rosalva Elva Martinez, of Pharr, Jose Maximo (Lilia) Gonzales, of Houston, Raul Jaime (Nora) Gonzales, of San Juan, Ester Aminta (Jesus) Molina, of Edinburg; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosa Garcia, of San Benito; and a brother, Eugenio Gonzales, of San Fernando, Tamaulipas. Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Sunday, Dec. 28, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment followed at La Piedad Cemetery in McAllen.Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
