ALAMO- Maria “Socorrito” Valdez, 86, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. Born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, she had lived in Monte Alto since 1975 and moved to Alamo in 2003. Socorrito is preceded in death by her husband, Juan Francisco Valdez; a son, Mariano Cazares. Mrs. Valdez is survived by her daughter, Victoria Cazares of Alamo; a nephew, Ramon De La Garza of Houston; two nieces, Justa De La Garza and Maria Concepcion De La Garza, both of Reynosa, Mexico. A rosary was held Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 2 p.m. April 15 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in San Juan. Interment followed at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of San Juan.
