MARCOS R. GOMEZ
SAN JUAN – Marcos R. Gomez, 84, died Friday, March 20, 2015, at Amara Hospice. Marcos was born in San Juan, lived there all of his life and was a long-time farmer. He attended P.S.J.A. High, where he played football and made it to state in track. Marcos was a veteran of the U.S. Army who was awarded several medals, including a Purple Heart Medal. He was an active supporter of P.S.J.A. Bears football, basketball and baseball teams. Marcos enjoyed rooting and attending games for the Spurs, Astros, Rangers and Dallas Cowboys and looked forward to gambling trips with his family. He was a past P.S.J.A. School Board Member and was appointed by Texas Land Commissioner Garry Mauro to the Texas Farm and Ranch Advisory Committee. Marcos was a man who was dedicated to his family and adored his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Ramirez Gomez; his parents, Lucio and Salome Gomez; and four siblings, Homero and Baldomero Gomez, Josefa Suarez and Connie Arcaute. Marcos is survived by a daughter, Ada Gomez; two sons, Alfredo “Fred” (Mari) Gomez, Noel (Mary Lou) Gomez; five grandchildren, Houston (Nancy), Victoria, Austin, Gonzalo and Anica; six siblings, Bertha Quintanilla, Ciro Gomez, Emma Luna, Oralia Martinez, Ella Gonzalez, Delia Alaniz; and several nieces and nephews. The family would especially like to thank his longtime employee and friend of 35 years, Santana Perez. Thanks also to the family for their support and prayers throughout our fatherâs illness. Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Monday, March 23, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors were conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen. Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
