IRENE F. SALINAS
PHARR - Irene F. Salinas, 83, died Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Amara Hospice in Edinburg.
“Gone from our sight but not from our hearts. The sun will shine, the birds will sing, but our days will forever miss the love of our mother. How will we live without you, how will we move on with our lives? One day at a time.” We love you, mom. David & Jimmy
Irene was a life-long resident of Pharr and member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. She was employed by PSJA ISD as a teacher for 44 years and as a substitute for ten years. In 1995 she was nominated Teacher of the Year. Ms. Salinas was a member of the Pharr Library Board for 35 years and served as its first Hispanic Library Board President. Irene was a loving, caring, and thoughtful mother, sister and friend who will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Maximiana Flores; former spouse, Santiago Salinas, Sr.; two siblings, Maria Alicia (Lorenzo) Hernandez and Espiridion Flores.
Irene is survived by two sons, Santiago (Nora) Salinas of Pharr, David (Rosie) Salinas of McAllen; three grandchildren, Yvette (Anthony) Adams, Daniella and Mateo Salinas; one great-granddaughter, Aurora; a sister, Ercilia (Carlos Sr.) Cantu of Pharr; and a sister in law, Minerva Flores of Pharr.
Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, March 19, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment followed at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
