EDWARD RAMIREZ
SAN JUAN - Edward Ramirez, 77, passed away very peacefully at his home in San Juan, on March 1st.
It was his passion for loud and hot motorcycles that captured the attention and the eyes of a beautiful young Alamo girl, whom he later married. So happy together for 57 years, Edward and Cory lived the greatest love story of their lives.
He learned the value of honest hard work at a very young age, harvesting seasonal crops with his family. He was later employed at Oaks Irrigation in Pharr and then teamed up with his brother-in-law, Jim Shawn, to open Valley Mobile Service. With their entrepreneur spirit, they later started Mobile Crane Service in Pharr in 1972. Edward was widely respected and loved by his employees as he treated them like family. He mentored the mechanics, drivers and crane operators. Nearly 40 years ago, he and his wife Cory opened Cory’s Cakes in San Juan where his fun-loving spirit was enjoyed by all the employees.
His hobbies included building championship racecars for his son, Eddie. His genius for mechanics led him to create street rods, parading them and showing them throughout Texas, and he often brought home trophies for his amazing craft.
Among his many happy moments, it was time spent with family and the grandkids at his Hill Country home in Ingram, Texas, that he enjoyed the best. And back home, his daily 10 a.m. coffee breaks with his best friend Jay Villarreal brought him joy.
He passed on to the young ones and young-at-heart his great zest for life.
Ed will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Ann Ramirez; his parents, Cirilo and Victoria Ramirez; and four sisters, Blanca Shawn, Anita Bass, Amelia Carmona and Lydia Leal.
Edward is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cory Ramirez; a son, Eddie Ramirez Jr., both of San Juan; a daughter, Angie (Jerry Muñoz) of Pharr; three grandchildren, Madeline, Aidan, and Jordan Muñoz; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Shawn of San Juan, and Gilbert Leal of Pharr.
Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Remembrance Service Sunday, March 4, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral mass took place at 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan, officiated by Fr. Bob Wright, OMI. Interment followed at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
