CRISTINA ESTEVIZ

PHARR – Cristina Esteviz, 88, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at McAllen Heart Hospital. Born in Alamo, she had lived in Hidalgo most of her life. Cristina Esteviz was a strong, courageous woman devoted to her family’s well-being. Ms. Esteviz served Hidalgo ISD for 25 years as a school custodian and attended Rio Grande Adult Day Care for 20 years. She was loved and respected by her family, neighbors, and friends. Her smile, beauty, warmth and wisdom will continue through the ages. Ms. Esteviz is preceded in death by her two husbands, Ramon Cortez and Ramon Cavazos; parents, Cristina Pedraza and Tomas Esteviz; eight children, Mappy Cortez, Rafael Cortez, Andres Cortez, Jaime Cortez, Fernando Cortez, Saul Cavazos, Pedro Cavazos and Antonio Cavazos. She is survived by seven children; Ramon (Maricela) Cortez, Marcelina Cortez, Criselda (+Sergio) Rincon, all of Pharr, Nelda (Moctezuma) Zuniga of McAllen, Tomas (Margarita) Cortez of Penitas, Graciela (+Gerardo) Muniz, Dagoberto Cavazos, both of Pharr; 65 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and one great- great granddaughter; two brothers, Aaron Esteviz, Arturo Esteviz; six sisters, Lourdes Saenz, Guadalupe Gonzalez, Irma Gonzalez, Tomasita Esteviz, Francisca Esteviz and Juanita Mendez. A rosary was held Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. today, May 29, 2015, at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Las Milpas. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
