GERARDO CEPEDA SR.

SAN JUAN — Gerardo Cepeda, Sr., 61, died Friday, August 21, 2015, at Nix Hospital in San Antonio. Born in Alamo, he had lived in San Juan most of his life. Mr. Cepeda retired from the U.S. Navy and was a very proud veteran who served on the USS Ranger from 1975-1976. Jerry was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 32 years, Diana, and a proud father and grandfather. He had a kind, loving heart and was giving to any person he met – a true living angel. He is preceded in death by his father, Hesmerhildo Cepeda, Sr., step-father, Juan Vidales; a sister, Maria Blanca Rincones; a brother, Hesmerhildo Cepeda, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Josefina Garza and Celia Garza. Mr. Cepeda is survived by his wife, Diana G. Cepeda; a daughter, JoAnn (Christopher) Rose; a son, Jay (Julia) Cepeda, all of San Juan; three grandchildren, Nathan Jay Rose, Jaylin Cepeda, Kayla Josefine Rose; his mother, Dolores Vidales of San Juan; three sisters, Silvia (Viviano) Martinez of San Juan, Lisa (Ricardo) Cazares, Hortencia Singleterry, both of Alamo; a brother, Gilbert Cepeda of Alamo; and eight brothers and sisters-in-law, Andres (Consuelo) Garza, Dionicio (Maria) Garza, Juan (Teresa) Garza, Ernesto (Lupe) Garza, Arturo (Emma) Garza, Gloria Garza, Oscar Garza, Bea Garza and Raul (Olga) Garza; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Saturday, Aug. 22, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Military honors were conducted by Sgt. Benito Alaniz V.F.W. Post 7473 of Elsa. Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of San Juan.
