CALIXTO “CHORE” HERNANDEZ

EDINBURG — Calixto “Chore” Hernandez, 64, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Retama Manor Nursing Center in Edinburg. Mr. Calixto was born in Veracruz, MX, and had lived in Edinburg most of his life. Calixto came to the United States when he was 14, and started working different jobs until he was settled. He learned the art of body work and painting cars. Mr. Hernandez brought several brothers and nephews to the U.S. and helped them make a living. He was well known for helping those around him. Mr. Hernandez enjoyed Sunday mornings having “Barbacoa” with his family. Calixto was a family oriented man who chose to dedicate his life to his beloved wife and sons. He will be greatly missed by every life he touched. Mr. Hernandez is survived by his wife of 40 years, Maria Del Socorro Hernandez, of Edinburg; son, Julian (Gregoria) Hernandez; step-son, Evaristo Gonzalez; grandchildren, Juan J. Hernandez, and Arath J. Hernandez, all of Edinburg; two brothers, Epifanio Hernandez, of Edinburg, Felipe Hernandez, and Refugia Hernandez, both of Mexico. Visitation was held Sunday, June 21 at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral service took place Monday, June 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Julian, his son, would especially like to thank the Retama Manor Nursing Center staff for the support and care given to the family for the past six years. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
