ERASMO “FAST EDDIE” AVILA

SAN JUAN – Erasmo Avila, 68, entered eternal rest on Friday, June 12, 2015, at McAllen Medical Center. Born in San Juan, he had lived there all of his life and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Eddie enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially, family barbecues. He is preceded in death by his parents, Encarnacion “Chon” and Petra Avila; and a sister, Maria Calderon. Mr. Avila is survived by his wife, Mercedes Jasso Avila, of San Juan; six children, Dalia (Leo) Solis, Maribel (Bill) Ryan, both of Alamo, Celena (Carl) Hoglund, Erasmo Avila Jr., David Avila, Crystal (Daniel) Avila, all of San Juan; seven grandchildren, Steven Solis, Rudy Mendoza Jr., Jennifer Solis, K.C. Ryan, Catelyn Hoglund, Jazmine Avila, Daniel Avila Jr.; two greatgrandchildren, Angel Bryan Alvarez and Noah Alvarez; and six siblings, Sebastian Paz, of San Antonio, Maria Luisa (Ramiro) Villegas, of Mission, Maria Olga Ybarra, Carlos “Chale” Avila, Maria Ilda Avila, all of San Juan, Ricardo Avila, of Pearsall; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, June 15, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
