MCALLEN SPECIAL ELECTION THIS SATURDAY

McALLEN -- If you’re a registered voter who lives in McAllen’s District 1 (city’s northeast side), and you haven’t yet voted on the candidate of your choice, your last chance to do so is this Saturday, April 4th. Unlike the early-voting process, which ended this Tuesday and included three polling places, there is only one place to cast your vote Saturday – Gonzalez Elementary School, 201 E. Martin Avenue. Hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, contact the McAllen city secretary’s office at 681-1020. As almost everyone is already aware, District 1’s city commission seat was left vacant by the unexpected death last December of Scott Crane. Four names appear on the ballot, leading to the likely scenario of a run-off election. In the end, whoever wins will serve out the remainder of Crane’s term, which would have ended in 2017. As their names appear on the city’s ballot:

• Javier Villalobos, attorney

• Eduardo Hinojosa, general manager at a local wireless business

• Debbie Crane Aliseda, businesswoman and sister to Scott Crane

• Richard Cortez, CPA and former mayor of McAllen McAllen’s cable TV station (channel 12) will be airing a candidate’s forum throughout the rest of the week, which, in part, included the four candidates running, espousing their positions on a wide variety of issues.
