SAN JUAN -- Good news for San Juan city residents who are sick and tired of crater-sized pot holes on five city roads in bad need of repair, which include Nolana, Eldora, Sioux, Moore
and part of Cesar Chavez: work on their repair should be finished before the end of this year.
To accomplish the temporary overlay, the city has budgeted $333,000. Bids on the road work should be let out this spring, with construction scheduled to begin this summer or early fall.
Question is, where does the city go from here? Keep applying “band aids” every so many years? Or float a multi-milliondollar bond, which city taxpayers would pay for in the form of increased taxes?
To address that question, San Juan is expected to have a city workshop next Tuesday at 6 p.m. at city hall. The public is invited to attend and listen to the discussion. For more information, call 223-2200.
If the city commission votes to move ahead with the (estimated) $5-million bond for road improvements, which would include financial help from county Precinct 2, voters must approve it.
The multi-million-dollar project would tear up three San Juan roadways – Eldora, Sioux and part of Cesar Chavez – and replace with them with new and expanded thoroughfares. If approved, the wide-ranging road project is expected to take two to three years to complete.
